All About The Hartwell Players

Melbourne’s oldest performing community theatre!

The Hartwell Players began in 1938, under the name of the Hartwell Presbyterian Merrymakers. The group initially only involved women from the Hartwell Presbyterian Church. In 1952, men were admitted and the name of the company changed to The Hartwell Players, as it is known today.

The Hartwell Players Today

Today, The Hartwell Players produces up to several shows a year. These shows can include –

  • A Children’s Production – usually in the January school holidays
  • A series of One Act plays
  • A full length Comedy or Drama.

We like to mix things up – one year we’ll do a season of One Acts and the next year we’ll try something else.  There are no set rules at Hartwell!
