The Hartwell Players began in 1938, under the name of the Hartwell Presbyterian Merrymakers. The group initially only involved women from the Hartwell Presbyterian Church. In 1952, men were admitted and the name of the company changed to The Hartwell Players, as it is known today.
Today, The Hartwell Players produce four shows a year. A Pantomime in the January school holidays, a Shakespeare show that then travels to the Shakespeare Festival at Stratford (Vic), a series of one-act plays and a full length production.
The Hartwell Players welcome new members in whatever capacity they would like to be involved, acting, technical work, publicity, set-building, you name it! We have an active committee as well as a play selection sub-committee who meet regularly to choose new material.
