All About The Hartwell Players

Melbourne's oldest performing community theatre!

The Hartwell Players began in 1938, under the name of the Hartwell Presbyterian Merrymakers. The group initially only involved women from the Hartwell Presbyterian Church. In 1952, men were admitted and the name of the company changed to The Hartwell Players, as it is known today.

The Hartwell Players Today

Today, The Hartwell Players produce three or four shows a year. These shows usually include a Summer Show (Family Friendly) in the January school holidays, a Shakespeare show that then travels to the Shakespeare Festival at Stratford (Vic), a series of one-act plays and a full length production.

In 2012 our seasons will be:
Season One: The Real Story of Puss in Boots
Season Two: Macbeth
Season Three: One Act Plays
Season Four: Daisy Pulls It Off

We are currently finalising our 2013 playbill, but the year will be:
Season One: Summer Show (January)
Season Two: One Act Plays (July)
Season Three: Full Length Production (September)

Join In The Fun

The Hartwell Players welcome new members in whatever capacity they would like to be involved, acting, technical work, publicity, set-building, you name it! We have an active committee as well as a play selection sub-committee who meet regularly to choose new material.

Are you interested in directing? Hartwell Players encourage submissions from interested directors for any of our seasons. Please send an email to committee@hartwellplayers.org.au if you're interested.

Are you a writer? Contact the Play Selection Committee (psc@hartwellplayers.org.au) to have your works read and considered for future seasons.
