The Voysey Inheritance is Hartwell's entry into the 2011 VDL Awards.
Misappropriation of client funds... fraudulent speculation on the Stock Market... and an intricate cover up. With similarities to more recent events in corporate corruption, The Voysey Inheritance is also the dramatic saga of the Voysey family. When young Edward Voysey discovers that the family's wealth has been built on embezzlement he must choose between coming clean and causing the ruination of his family, or continuing the cover up. While his brothers have their own ideas about how to handle the ‘inheritance’, Alice, his sweetheart, offers an interesting proposition.
The Voysey Inheritance by Harley Granville-Barker is a classic piece of British theatre which has been frequently revived, most recently by The National Theatre in 2006 in London and in America by David Mamet in a new adaptation.
This epic study of an upper class Edwardian family and the secret of scandalous practices by the patriarch has a rich texture of principles and values as relevant today as when it was written in 1905 by the man often called the Father of British Theatre.
